The big plus of the Rabensteiner Forest is its sheer size. Unfortunately, in large parts of it is a pure economic forest, which you can see in the dead straight, wide paths and the trees, some of which are sterile, planted in rows. Furthermore, there is usually a lot going on here compared to other forests in the vicinity of Chemnitz. The background noise that the A4 offers, at least in parts of the forest, is also rather unpleasant. Nonetheless, there are also some more natural looking ones with less public traffic in the Rabensteiner Forest. Especially the smaller side roads are of course recommended here, because the cyclists and joggers are not really to be found there.

The Rabenstein Forest is located west of the city of Chemnitz. It is located on the "Rabensteiner Höhenzug". This ridge separates the northern edge of the Ore Mountain Basin from the southern edge of the Central Saxon loess-loam hill country. Its highest elevation, the Totenstein, reaches 479 meters above sea level (NN), the lowest point 330 m above sea level. NN. On the Totenstein in the Rabenstein Forest near Chemnitz is the Leuchtmoos Cave, here you can still see the rare light moss in some barred places in the cave, but the entire Rabenstein Forest is also an oasis of nature, with many natural monuments such as Goldbachgrund, am Riedbusch and the Hoppberg and the Dome of the Rock.

Not without reason one of the most beautiful forest areas in / around Chemnitz. It invites you to go hiking, cycling, jogging in winter, cross-country skiing and sledding. The forest stretches from Rabenstein (the green lung of Chemnitz, here is also the Oberrabenstein reservoir and the Wildgatter) via Grüna (forester's lodge, ski jumping hill, the Totenstein with its beautiful observation tower opposite) to Wüstenbrand.
